Introduction
Metals are known for their durability in difficult conditions. However, there are many aspects to consider, including heavy loads, constant cycling, high intensity, acidic environments, and even extreme temperatures. 

Welders and fabricators must be aware of the point where a particular metal will start to melt. Metals progressively melt as they are heated. As a result, a metal may start to weaken and deform far before it reaches its ultimate melting temperature. To simplify things, we typically define a metal’s melting point as the point at which it has completely liquefied (called liquids).  

Brazing and Welding
When two metal pieces are heated to the point of melting, a melt pool is formed in which the molecules of the two metals completely mix. This process is known as welding. Frequently, the melt pool will receive a third metal filler. The two components are bonded with an unbreakable link when the metal cools down and solidifies.  



A substantial difference in their melting points will cause one of the sections to melt more quickly than the other. Therefore it is important to know which metals should be welded and which are optimal for welding. 

Brazing may be preferable to welding for combining metals with different melting points, like steel and copper. In brazing, a filler metal with a low melting point is heated with an oxy-acetylene torch. Typically, this filler metal is a brass alloy.   

Why Is the Melting Point of Metal Important?
The melting temperature of a metal or bronze melting point is the most significant temperature it can reach during a metalworking process or as a result of an application. However, metal can reach many other significant temperatures as well.

The failure of a component can happen when a particular metal reaches its point of melting. Of course, metal failure may occur before the point of melting. However, once a metal reaches the melting point and turns into a liquid, it ceases to be useful. If a component of a furnace, for instance, turns into liquid, the furnace won’t work anymore if the component is significant enough. 

It is easy to make anything from a metal when it is in its liquid form is another factor contributing to the significance of a metal’s melting point. Many diverse manufacturing processes include heating metals to their melting points. Metals must be in a liquid state to accomplish the processes of welding, melting, and casting. Knowing the point at which the metal will melt is crucial while manufacturing because it allows the equipment being used to be made of the proper materials.

Which Metal melts at the Lowest Temperature?
Mercury has a lower melting point than most materials (and aluminum alloys). Mercury melts at a temperature of -38 °F (-39 °C), while aluminum alloys do so at a temperature of 865-1,240 °F (463-671 °C).  

Which does Metal melt at the Highest Temperature?
Tungsten has a melting point at the higher end of the spectrum (and titanium). This is because the temperature at which tungsten begins to melt is 6,150 °F (3,399 °C), while titanium begins to melt at 3,040 °F (1,670 °C).

The melting point of Aluminum and Bronze?
Aluminum: 1218 F is a low melting temperature for aluminum (659 C). The melting point of aluminum can vary significantly when its alloy is introduced, from about 848 F to 1230 F. (453 C to 666 C). The melting points of other metals typically decrease when aluminum is added to them.

Bronze: The melting point of the bronze metal is 1675 F, or 913 C. Lead and zinc are also present, lowering the melting point of bearing bronze to 1790 F. (977 C). A brass alloy known as silicon bronze typically comprises 96% copper and a trace amount of silicon. Therefore, 1880 F or 1025 C is the melting temp for brass.
