Austenitic SS 304 Sheets and Plates

Austenitic SS 304 Sheets and Plates

304 stainless steel sheet as well as SS 304 plate are the most mainstream and economical forms of the 304 stainless steels. 304 stainless steel sheet has better corrosion resistance properties when it comes to chemical corrodents as well as industrial atmospheres and marine environments.

BALANCE

SS 304 stainless steel sheet along with SS 304 plate are part of the austenitic family of stainless steel and they are known to be used in varieties of stainless steel applications. As compared to other products, SS 304 sheet is a relatively low-cost offering and used in many applications.

Properties

SS 304 grades have excellent low temperature properties and respond well to hardening by cold working.  304 stainless steel sheet and plate may be subject to becoming a bit magnetic when worked and are not treatable with heat. 304 stainless steel plate grades possess better welding properties and post weld annealing is not regularly needed to restore performance. Check the aisi 304 stainless steel data sheet for more information.

SS 304 stainless sheet and 304 stainless plate have excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of atmospheric environments and many corrosive media. The sheets may pit and crevice corrode in warm chloride environments, and may be subject to cracking due to corrosion above about 60°C.

The carbon content in this grade SS 304 strengthens it and does not allow the alloy from getting fragile. 304 stainless steel is considered to be resistant to potable water with content up to about 200mg/L chlorides at medium temperatures, which may reduce to about 150mg/L at 60°C.

Specification

The austenitic stainless steel 304 sheet and plate specified by ASTM standard as  ASTM A 240 or ASME SA-240 are readily available in different types such as, for example, SS 304 Plane sheet and Plate, Shim, Thin, Perforated, Polished, Diamond, Chequered, Hot rolled, Cold rolled, Annealed, Soft annealed , coils, clad plate, strip etc.

As per availability and requirement Alloy 316 Sheets and Plate can be manufactured in different types burt also they also has different types of finishing on surface such as for example, Brushed , Polished t, Mirror finish, Mirror polished, Hot rolled(HR), Cold rolled  (CR), 2B,2D, BA NO(8), SATIN(Met with Plastic coated).

Application

  • Food processing equipment, particularly in beer brewing, milk processing & winemaking
  • Kitchen benches, sinks, troughs, equipment and appliances
  • Architectural paneling, railings & trim
  • Chemical containers, including for transport
  • Heat Exchangers
