Ferritic SS 410 Pipes and Tubes

Ferritic SS 410 Pipes and Tubes

SS 410 pipe and tubes is a martensitic stainless steel with low Carbon content and  has a high hardenability as a presence of chemical composition such as  nickel, cobalt and copper, which stabilize austenite and enable martensitic transformation.

Alloy 410 is officially stainless steel but characteristically the material actually comprises high carbon steel alloy which promotes wear resistance  with chromium stainless steel which promotes corrosion resistance.

Specification

Stainless steel 410 Seamless Pipe : ASTM/ASME SA 790/ A 790

Stainless steel 410 Seamless tube : ASTM/ASME SA 268 /A 268

Stainless steel 410 ERW Pipe          : ASTM/ASME SA 790/ A 790

Stainless steel 410 ERW Tube          :ASTM/ASME SA 268/ A 268

Production Process

SS 410 seamless tubes and SS 410 pipe or UNS S41000, is highly resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting corrosion and they are manufactured as  ERW(Electric Resistance Welded Pipe ) and Seamless  pipe. The different length and size of pipe & tubes are manufactured by 410 SS pipe suppliers according to specification mainly with three type of end in pipe i.e Plane End(PE), Threaded End (TE), Beveled End(BE).

The process through which  pipes and tubes can be manufactured include cold pilgering process, Extrusion process, tube mill Process also Piercing process followed by heat treatment and mechanical testing.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment process

Grade 410 pipes and tubes can undergo Hardening at temperature  925 to 1010 °C, further  followed by air and oil quenching. Aslo to increase the mechanical properties of ss 410 pipes and tubes followed by tempering process. These  Pipes offer good resistance to other inorganic acids such as hot phosphoric acid as well as most organic acids.

SS 410 Pipes and Tubes process annealing must be carried out at temperature ranging from 650 to 760°C and air-cooled. Grade 410 steels can be welded using all conventional welding techniques, but the materials should pre-heated at 150 to 260°C followed by post-weld annealing treatment, to mitigate cracking.

Properties

SS 410 seamless tubes and SS 410 pipe comprises copper to improve its resistance to strong reducing acids, such as sulphuric acid and The steel is also resistant to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion. SS 410 pipes and tubes are non-magnetic in all conditions, and offer excellent formability, toughness and weldability.

These SS 410 pipes and tubes are one of the few stainless steels that at temperatures of up to 35 Degree C / 95 Degree F provide full resistance in dilute sulphuric acid environments within the entire range of concentration, from 0 to 100 %. These alloy pipes and tubes are widely used in applications where the corrosion properties of AISI 316L and AISI 317L are not adequate.

Applications

SS 410 pipes and tubes are used in large scale industries such as Sugar Industries,Chemical industries, Petrochemical Industries, Pharmaceutical plants, Fertilizer and Oil plants, Textile machineries, Cement industry etc

To anneal this alloy, heat to 1500-1550° F (815-842° C) and hold for one hour per inch of thickness and furnace cool to room temperature. Such annealing should produce a Brinell hardness of 126-192 HB. A hardening heat treatment is necessary to bring out the maximum hardness and wear resistance.
