Production Process

Alloy 400 or UNS N04400 are manufactured such as ERW ( Electric Resistance Welded),
Seamless and EFW ( Electric Fusion Welding) pipes and tubes have different forms like round,
square, rectangle, etc. with particular ends like the plain end, bevel end, and threaded end with
a regular thickness of different schedule which range from SCH 5 to SCH XXS.

The process through which monel 400 tube fittings and pipes can be created include cold
pilgering process, extrusion process, tube mill process as well as the piercing process which
need to be followed by heat treatment and mechanical testing.

Fabrication and Heat treatment

Monel 400 pipe fittings and tubes can undergo forming, machining, and joining operations
while fabricating. Hot working conditions should be followed between 1200°F and 2150°F.

In Monel 400 seamless tube and pipes, annealing will completely soften work-hardened
material and is worked by holding at temperatures ranging from 1600°F and 1800°F for 2 to 10
minutes which needs to be followed by rapid quench and cold working should be performed on
annealed material.

Properties

Monel 400 can only be hardened by cold working, monel 400 tube fittings exhibit excellent
weldability and better strength, along with its corrosion resistance. Monel 400 pipe fittings
have great mechanical properties at below-freezing temperatures and can be used in
temperatures up to 1000° F.

Monel 400 pipes and tubes have good resistance to corrosion by various reducing media. It is
also usually more resistant to attack by oxidizing media than better copper alloys. This
